Geographic Location
Punta Cana sits at the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic (coordinates: 18.5601° N, 68.3725° W), where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. We are positioned on the Tropic of Cancer, which gives us our unique tropical climate and year-round warm weather.
Most visitors are surprised to learn that Punta Cana has both Caribbean and Atlantic coastlines. These two bodies of water meet at Cabo Engaño, just a couple of miles north of Punta Cana International Airport. Interestingly, most of Punta Cana's world-famous resorts face the Atlantic Ocean rather than the Caribbean Sea. But honestly? Both sides are equally beautiful, and we make no real distinctions between them—the waters are warm, the beaches are pristine, and the views are unforgettable.
A Brief History
Punta Cana's story as a tourist destination began in 1969 with the creation of Punta Cana International Airport and the first resort.
